The British National Formulary considers that such preparations are to be deprecated. Haymine (Pharmax), a recently introduced product of this type, is promoted for hay fever in adults, and formulated as a sustained-release tablet containing chlorpheniramine 10 mg + ephedrine 15 mg. The manufacturer claims that the ephedrine prevents drowsiness from the chlorpheniramine.
